New Bugesera International Airport

New Bugesera International Airport

Overview

The project consists of building Rwanda's largest International Airport, serving commercial flights destined to and from the greater Kigali metropolitan area. The budgeted cost of the project is $1.3 Billion.

The main development impact of New Bugesera International Airport is seen in the airport’s enabling role for the country’s development strategy which aims to leverage Rwanda’s positive investment environment, high doing-business scores, and perceived political stability in order to turn Rwanda into a regional hub for conferences, transport and tourism. NBIA will thereby promote stronger integration with regional economies.

ACTS scope of work includes conducting a geotechnical investigation of the underground consisting of drilling more than 1000 linear meters in total.

Furthermore, ACTS performed many in-situ testing such as pressuremeter tests, falling head tests, installation of piezometers and observation wells, etc.

The airport will initially have a single paved runway. During the second phase of construction, a second runway will be added, in order to serve 14 million passengers per year by 2032.
