Soil Basics for Engineers and Geologists: A general review of the most common subjects in soil and geotechnical engineering, the seminar includes site exploration practices, an overview of laboratory tests for soil and rocks, classification schemes for soil and rocks, analysis of subsurface conditions and assigning geomechanical properties to subsurface strata.

This course also covers foundation design, factor of safety in geotechnical engineering design, shoring systems, excavation procedure and soil stability issues. It is intended to establish a proper understanding of geotechnical reports and highlight the relation between geotechnical and civil engineers. At the end of the seminar engineers and geologists will be able to better understand and interpret a geotechnical report and relate it to the site conditions, foundation construction and excavation parameters.
