The objective of the seminar is to introduce the basics of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) design, and handling and placement techniques in all types of pavement. It also covers HMA mix design characteristics, the determination of the optimum combination of asphalt cement and aggregate to achieve durable pavements, and the techniques of HMA placing and compaction. Candidates will be exposed to the basic principles and latest updates on the design of HMA paving mixture including a basic overview of Superpave, and will learn how to meet the demands of modern traffic conditions by ensuring optimal performance of asphalt concrete pavements.

• Routine analysis of materials and paving mixture
• Recommendations for selection of asphalt cement
• HMA mix design characteristics
• HMA distress
