Assignment
To lead one drilling crew in performing a geotechnical drilling investigation on site.
- Function
To undertake drilling works for a particular soil investigation project as assigned by the Head of the
Drilling Department in accordance with the work requirements.
- Aims of the Job
To ensure that the drilling and associated in-situ testing for a particular geotechnical investigation
project including the day to day operations are carried out in a proper and safe manner in accordance
with specified/defined procedures/working practices along with maintaining safe behaviour on site and
troubleshoot any urgent occurrences while performing the job.
- Reporting to :
Head of the Geotechnical Division, Head of Drilling Department, Site Engineers and Geologist
from the company
- Supervising :
Labors, helpers and assistant drillers
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Drill boreholes
- Carry out general field tests (SPT, DCPT)
- Ability to take drilling measurements and dimensions
- Supervise the work of his helpers
- Troubleshoot drilling and mechanical problems within his capabilities
- Oversee the overall execution of his duties and his helpers in a safe manner
- Assist the senior mechanic if needed to fix drilling rigs
- Co-operation and Contact
With the Head of the Geotechnical Division, Head of Drilling Department, Site Engineers and
Geologist from the company. With representatives from the clients and consultants and all
companies and firms associated with the geotechnical investigation project.
- Qualifications
- Education and Experience :
One year certificate from college or technical school and one year related experience and / or training,
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Ability: (Arabic and/or English)
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak
effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Math Ability :
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or
diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.

- Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the Geotechnical Driller is frequently exposed to wet and/or
humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside
weather conditions extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of vibration
The noise level in the environment is loud.
- Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the Geotechnical Driller is regularly required to stand; walk; use
hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. He is frequently required
to lift up to 10 kilograms and occasionally required to lift up 30 kilograms. The vision requirements
include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Age: 25-55 years.
