- Assignment
Assists the Chief Chemist in the operation of the Chemistry Department and performs routine tests allocated to this department.
- Function
Conducts research, analysis, synthesis, chemical and specified physical testing and experimentation on construction materials and related substances for such purposes.
- Aims of the Job
To perform day to day tests in the Chemistry Department and associated operations in an effective and efficient manner. Further, to carry the allocated testing, surveillance and operations activities in accordance with specified requirements.
- Reporting
To Chief Chemist and in his absence to Head of Division.
- Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
- Maintains a tidy workplace in the Chemistry Department.
- and updates a list of inventory of the equipment of the Chemistry Department and maintains the good working conditions and adequate space allocation for this equipment.
- Conducts tests on physical properties of asphalt, cement and asphalt mixes.
- Conducts chemical testing on cement, aggregate, soil, concrete, water, oils and related substances as well as other materials suitable for testing..
- Conducts tests on concrete and cement durability.
- Signs and reviews test reports.
- Maintains the equipment allocated to the Chemistry Department
- Co-operation and Contact
With Quality Assurance officer and auditors from the company and from other auditors as directed by the Head of material testing division. With representatives from the Consultant, contractor and all companies and firms associated with provision of goods or services to the company, as directed / agreed by Chief Chemist or the Head of material testing division.
- Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
BS in chemistry or equivalent program certificate with minimum two years related experience and or training ; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Ability: (Arabic / English)
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such exponents, logarithms, quadratic, equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mechanical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills:
Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software.
- Working Conditions and Fatigue
Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job the Chemist is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The Chemist is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts ; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions ; extreme cold ; extreme heat ; risk of electrical shock ; explosives ; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
- Physical Demands :
While performing the duties of this job the Chemist is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arm. He is frequently required to stand and walk. The Chemist is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The Chemist is occasionally required to lift up to 10 kilograms. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
